 Our Mission

 

Friends of Niños Adelante's mission is to provide high achievement students from poor families in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, the opportunity to complete their education through a scholarship (beca) program.

 

Who We Are and What We Do

 

Friends of Niños Adelante, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) charitable corpporation organized for the sole purpose of providing financial support to Fundación Niños Adelante ("Niños Adelante"), a Mexican-chartered non-profit organization founded by a group of Americans in Zihuatanejo in 1978. Niños Adelante, working with Zihuatanejo area teachers, school administrators and parents, qualifies students for scholarships based on need and academic performance.

 

Sponsoring a Student

 

Sponsorship of a student involves a commitment to make an annual scholarship or beca contribution through 12th grade or up to six years (currently $450 US) for 7-12th grades) to assist families who would otherwise be unable to support their child’s continuing education.  If a sponsor’s student enrolls in a formal education program beyond high school, sponsors are encouraged to continue to support their student at the college level scholarship of $675 per year.  Sponsors are also strongly encouraged to maintain periodic contact with their student, preferably via e-mail.

 

Donations, including amounts for scholarships, are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
